Affluenza

This word is defined by the book, Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic, as “a painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety, and waste resulting from the dogged
pursuit of more.” (Thank you Wikipedia.) I came across this word in a newspaper article and was immediately intrigued. A hybrid between the words “affluence” and “influenza”. It’s a social sickness, one that mercilessly plagues America. Very reminiscent of The Great Gatsby, don’t you think?

not-so-hollow holophrasis.

I thought that on this fine morning I would give you guys a little food for thought. Don’t worry, there is no need to strain yourself before your morning coffee. What I offer you today is a word that may or may not provoke a subtle contemplation, realization, or confrontation…. or you could just simply think the word is cool (I know I do.)
